Man who stabbed a student to death for rejecting his marriage proposal to be hanged on live TV in Egypt

Man who stabbed a student to death for rejecting his marriage proposal to be hanged on live TV in Egypt A judge has ruled that a man who stabbed a student to death when she turned down his marriage proposal should be hanged on LIVE TV in Egypt. Mohamed Adel, 21, was found guilty of murdering his Mansoura University classmate Naira Ashraf when she turned him down, with the court sentencing him to death on July 6. The court has now called for his execution to be broadcast live to deter similar crimes from happening in the future.   In its letter to Parliament, the court wrote: 'The broadcast, even if only part of the start of proceedings, could achieve the goal of deterrence, which was not achieved by broadcasting the sentencing itself.' Adel was captured in chilling footage attacking Ashraf outside Mansoura University near the Nile Delta on 20th June. She was just about to sit her final exams, according to local media. Ashraf died on the spot as angry p...

Woman plunges 100ft to her death from mountain in front of husband

Woman plunges 100ft to her death from mountain in front of husband A woman has fallen 100ft to her death from a mountain in Italy where she was hiking with her husband. The 56-year-old British hiker and her husband had been hiking on the Santner via Ferrata (iron path) in the Dolomites in northern Italy when she suddenly lost her balance. The accident occurred shortly before 2pm local time, when they were around three-quarters of the way to the Santner refuge on the Catinaccio, in South Tyrol. The via Ferrata is a mountainous path of fixed ropes, ladders and rungs as an aid to crossing otherwise tricky and steep rocky terrain. Her body was recovered by an emergency helicopter. This is not the first time someone has died while hiking along the treacherous hiking path. Last week, a 55-year-old Italian tourist died when he lost his grip and plunged 40 metres to his death on the via Ferrata. A week earlier, again on the Catinaccio, a young man lost hi...

Heaps of unwanted clothes from the UK wash up on Ghana's beaches

Heaps of unwanted clothes from the UK wash up on Ghana's beaches Heaps of unwanted clothes have washed up on a beach in Ghana, west Africa. Disturbing pictures from the capital city of Accra in Ghana show huge piles of wet garments strewn over the sand, with many of these thought to have been imported from Britain and other western nations. According to environmental sustainability charity WRAP, up to 70 per cent of the UK's waste clothes from retail and donation are sent abroad, with only the United States exporting more worldwide. The charity pointed out that most of the clothes sent to West Africa from the UK and America cannot be resold as a result of their poor condition and these clothes end up being a major contributor to pollution. Photographs from the coastal fishing community of Jamestown  One picture shows a man stepping over a mound of clothes that extends from the sand into the sea. Other pictures from the scene show t...

Groom dumps bride at wedding venue after his mum saw her and decided she's 'too ugly' A groom dumped his bride in the middle of their wedding ceremony after his mother saw her for the first time during the ceremony and decided she is "too ugly".   The groom - who has not been named in local media - was reportedly ordered to dump his Tunisian bride after his mum decided she was too short and unattractive. It is understood that until the ceremony, the groom's mother had only seen photographs of his bride-to-be. But when she saw her face-to-face and in the flesh, she reportedly ordered her son to halt the service because his bride was too "short" and "ugly". Photos from the start of the service show bride Lamia Al-Labawi smiling in her wedding dress as she posed beside her groom-to-be who was mopping his brow with a handkerchief. Later, Lamia poured out her heart on social media. Lamia wrote on her blog that she is ...
